PolyM Building Blocks Win the Good Toy Award 2019
In May 2019, Hape's PolyM building blocks won the "Good Toy Award 2019" following selection by 6,000 toy consultants.
The grand Good Toy Award 2019 ceremony took place at the Tokyo Toy Museum in Japan, where PolyM received unanimous recognition and applause from attendees.
The award's consultants praised Hape's creative PolyM building blocks, recommending them to children and parents as "safe and educational toys." Their environmentally friendly materials, machine washability, and rounded edges give children safe, hygienic tools for play that are easy to clean and store.
They are also soft enough for children to step on without pain and fit together smoothly, allowing children to build endless structures. Masayo Ono, one of the award's toy consultants, said, “With beautiful colors and suitable sizes and shapes that are easy to put together, this toy brings out children's creativity.”
The award presented in Japan highlights PolyM's widely recognized safety and sustainability features and reflects its play value and educational importance.
(The Good Toy Award is hosted by the "Art and Play" Creation Association, a Japanese nonprofit organization that operates the Tokyo Toy Museum. The Good Toy Awards date back to 1985 and aim to introduce good toys to the public through annual awards. There are three award categories: the Good Toy Grand Prize (one winner each year), a special award (one winner each year), and the Good Toy Award (dozens of winners).

Large building blocks with rounded edges that are easy to clean are suitable for young children who like to put things in their mouths. This aligns with AAP guidance that basic toys such as blocks and construction toys encourage creative play (AAP: The Best Toys Go Back to the Basics). However, choose a set labeled for your child's age. Explore more building toys, or read about how wooden blocks help children learn mathematics and Flexistix bamboo construction toys.
